If half the band members were from Burlington, Vermont, would they sound like a Jamband?

If the other half were from Brooklyn, New York, would they sound like an obscure Noise Rock group circa 1992?

If a certain record label signs that band, would they automatically be lumped into the same musical genre as their other labelmates?

For the Vermont-Brooklyn-Island Records signed band The Urgency, one usually assumes that all of those factors would contribute to a band's sound without any prior listening to them. However, The Urgency breaks free from any label that's automatically pinned to them- they are able to generate these juxtaposing sounds that lace together beautifully. The first sound covers the theatrical, wailing vocals from vocalist Tyler Gurwicz that evidently stems from Post-Hardcore groups such as Hot Water Music and At the Drive-In. The second sound is a soft, hypnotizing sound that leads listeners into their music. In addition, Gurwicz's dramatic vocals that reaches a wide spectrum of notes is worth mentioning as well.

When combining these distinguishing sounds, the band was lucky enough to make their eponymous debut album, The Urgency. Each and every song on the CD has its own identity, but the lyricism behind the song "Revolution" is the perfect time-relevant song today. In the track, Gurwicz discusses that greed doesn't lead into a personal understanding, "[Revolution] is about letting go of material attachments and finding love and peace in yourself and what you do." So, for this band, not only do they have the persistence to make talented songs, but the insightful commentary coming from the band add on to the group's expertise on music at such an early stage.

Like any other up-and-coming band, The Urgency has a lot of work ahead of them so that listeners everywhere can appreciate the prodigious nature of the band. From a brief tour with 311, to streaming their entire album via Myspace, or coming off from the performance at Bamboozle, although the work may seem demanding, there's no doubt that the band can overcome it and receive the fame they so rightfully deserve.
